Carl Seidl thought of that and became a machinist so he could turn vintage mechanical pencils into ballpoint pens and he called them Retrofits. These are beautiful pens that used to hold 1.1mm lead but now fits a Cross refill. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances he can no longer make these cool and unique pens so grab them while you can.
